COAT COLORS

What colors are possible?
Possible colors include the following: black, black/white, blue roan, liver, liver/white, liver roan, golden, red, red/white, red roan, orange/white, orange roan, lemon/white, lemon roan, sable and sable/white. Tan markings can occur on most of these color combinations. Blue roan is generally the most popular color.
What colors are acceptable?
Concerning color, the English Cocker Spaniels standard states “Various.” ECS fanciers love the variety of colors found in their breed. It is preferred that parti-colors be clearly marked, ticked or roaned. White feet on a solid colored dog is undesirable, but a little white on the throat is acceptable. Black & tans and liver & tans are considered solid colors.

The ECSCA provides several sources of information on grooming, from a grooming chart to a video.
You can also order a printed version. The ECSCA offers a simple conformation and pet grooming chart for $2.00. The chart includes a textural explanation and black and white drawings. A video, “Bonnie Threlfall Grooming Workshop”, is also available. Filmed in Fort Worth at the 1999 National, this video is not a step-by-step grooming guide for those learning to groom. This tape does illustrate correct use of stone, hand stripping and advanced grooming techniques along with audience questions and “problem area” grooming.
